"What Would Jesus Do" is a recognizable Christian slogan. How often do we think deeper about it's meaning. How often to we act as Jesus would?
I’m learning how easy it is to admire Jesus from a distance while still holding tightly to my own reactions, habits, and priorities. In the middle of a rushed morning, a difficult conversation, or a moment where patience wears thin, it becomes clear how quickly I drift back toward self-protection instead of self-giving love. The phrase “What would Jesus do?” can become familiar enough that we stop letting it search our hearts.
“Do as God does. After all, you are his dear children. Let love be your guide. Christ loved us and offered his life for us as a sacrifice that pleases God.” — Ephesians 5:1–2
Paul reminds us that following Jesus is more than appreciating His teachings. Scripture calls us to imitate His way of living. The love Christ demonstrated was not distant or theoretical. It was patient with weakness, gentle with people, and willing to sacrifice for the sake of others. Jesus did not simply speak about love. He embodied it.
I’m reminded how often love is tested in ordinary moments. Sometimes it looks like choosing gentleness when frustration feels justified. Sometimes it means listening instead of defending ourselves. Sometimes it means forgiving quietly when pride wants recognition. These moments may seem small, but they become places where Christ slowly reshapes our hearts.
This isn’t self-improvement. It’s surrender. We do not imitate Jesus through sheer effort alone. As we stay near to Him, His Spirit forms His character within us. Grace is not permission to drift; it is the steady invitation to walk differently. The more we behold Christ in the Gospels, the more we begin to recognize where our lives still resist His love.
When we walk in love, even imperfectly, we reflect something of God’s heart to the people around us. Our lives begin to carry the quiet fragrance of Christ — not through performance, but through daily dependence on Him.
Ask Yourself:
Where is Christ inviting me to reflect His love more honestly today?
